Christmas at Hogwarts - Commentary
Christmas
for the Weasleys is usually a time of fun,
laughter and celebration so we wanted our
Christmas song to reflect that. J K Rowling
describes Christmas at Hogwarts so well that we
couldn't resist putting in a few of her wonderful
and inventive details such as the singing suit of
armour, the garlands of mistletoe, the fairies and
the food!
The musical style of this song can only
be described as 'Christmas style'! We listened to
some festive favourites for inspiration and
decided to make the song slow at the beginning and
end, and lively and bouncy in the middle. We added
some echoes and some tinkling bells to
complete the effect.
One of the verses
deals with the snowball fight that the Weasleys
have during Ginny's third year, just before the
Yule Ball. We really wanted to write about this
because we just can't think of a more fun way to
spend Christmas day than having a snowball fight
with the Weasleys, exploring the Hogwarts grounds,
then all heading inside for the feast!
