"Don't push me, please, Dean,' she said, sounding annoyed. 'you're always doing that, I can get through perfectly well on my own...'
The portrait swung closed behind Harry, but not before he had heard Dean make an angry retort...his feeling of elation increasing, Harry strode off through the castle."

Dean Don't Push Me - Commentary

'Dean Don't Push Me' is a song written in a cool lounge jazz style, the title being self-explanatory. When Harry uses Felix Felicis to have a 'lucky' day, he accidentally nudges Ginny when she is coming through the portrait hole with Dean, resulting in Dean receiving a telling off, however undeserved... poor Dean.

We felt this passage in the book represents Ginny's feisty character brilliantly, an aspect of Ginny that we adore, so we decided to write a song based around this idea. We wrote it in a swinging jazz style, with Percy playing a smooth piano solo (which he was annoyingly proud of). Charlie particularly liked this song, as it was a chance for him to show off his skills on his upright bass.

So prepare to click your fingers and tap along as you enjoy, 'Dean Don't Push Me', jazz style!

Dean Don't Push Me - Lyrics

I picked you from the crowd (she picked you from the crowd)

You didn’t act too loud (he isn’t very loud)

I thought ‘Oh he seems nice’ (Hermione’s advice)

And so I asked you out without thinking twice

(She picked you from the crowd) I picked you from the crowd

(You didn’t act too loud) You weren't very loud

(She thought that you seemed nice) I took Hermione’s advice
(And so she asked you out without thinking twice)

It’s sweet the way you always try to make me laugh

You're looking pretty cute in your Gryffindor scarf
You’re really quite an artist – boy can you draw!
But the thing that really bugs me is this one little flaw

Every time we go, through the portrait hole

You seem to think I can’t get through on my own
So Dean don’t push me, Dean don’t push me
Dean don’t push me ‘cos you'll push me too far
I said now Dean don’t push me, Dean don’t push me
Dean don’t push me ‘cos you'll push me too far

We work well as a team (on the Quidditch team)

But things aren’t what they seem (not what they seem)
We’re really good friends (they’re better off as friends)
Will we stay together? Well I think it depends

Ron caught us kissing (Ron caught them kissing)

He doesn’t know what he’s missing (doesn’t know what he’s missing)
Harry saw us too (Harry was there too)
I’m sorry but I wish that it was him and not you
It’s sweet the way you always try to make me laugh
You're looking pretty cute in your Gryffindor scarf
You’re really quite an artist – boy can you draw!
But the thing that really bugs me is this one little flaw
Every time we go, through the portrait hole
You seem to think I can’t get through on my own
So Dean don’t push me, Dean don’t push me
Dean don’t push me ‘cos you'll push me too far
I said now Dean don’t push me, Dean don’t push me
Dean don’t push me ‘cos you'll push me too far
