"Riddle
laughed, a high, cold laugh that didn't suit him.
It made the hairs stand up on the back of Harry's
neck.
'If I say
it myself, Harry, I've always been able to charm
the people I needed. So Ginny poured out her soul
to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I
wanted. I grew stronger and stronger on a diet of
her deepest fears, her darkest secrets. I grew
powerful, far more powerful than little Miss
Weasley'."

Dear Tom - Commentary
This
song is probably our favourite of all those by
Ginny and the Weasleys (Ginny particularly likes
it too because she gets to put on an American
accent!) We planned to write about the events in
Ginny's first year at Hogwarts where she was
writing in the diary and slowly becoming possessed
by Voldemort, losing her memory and getting very
scared. But because this subject matter is so dark
and depressing, and because Ginny spends a good
part of her year upset and worried, we decided to
lighten things up considerably by writing the song
in an upbeat, jolly, Country & Western style. The
result is (in Big_D's words) "hilariously
ridiculous" - we have a bluegrass love song
dedicated to the Dark Lord (the wonderful 'Tom' is
of course Tom Riddle - the younger version of Lord
Voldemort). We had a lot of fun writing this song
(we're particularly proud of the internal rhymes
in the third line of each verse) and we hope you
enjoy listening to it. |

Dear
Tom - Lyrics |
|
|
Dear
Tom I got a story and I hope that you will listen |
|
My
brothers have been teasing me real bad |
|
My
robes are torn and tattered and my books are old and battered |
|
I know
you'll understand why I'm so sad |
| |
|
I
write and tell you every day, the troubles that have come my
way |
|
You
always know just what to say dear Tom |
|
I
never had a friend like you, to tell my woes and worries to |
|
You
really are a dream come true dear Tom |
| |
|
Dear
Tom there is a boy I like his name is Harry Potter |
|
He's
good and kind and funny and so sweet |
|
The
problem is he's famous and always with Ron, Dean, Neville and
Seamus |
|
I
don't think he'll ever notice me |
| |
|
I
write and tell you every day, the troubles that have come my
way |
|
You
always know just what to say dear Tom |
|
I
never had a friend like you, to tell my woes and worries to |
|
You
really are a dream come true dear Tom |
| |
|
Dear
Tom I can't remember where I was on Halloween |
|
I saw
Mrs Norris hanging on the wall |
|
I woke
up in my bed and my robes were all blood red |
|
Where
the feathers came from I can't tell at all |
| |
|
I
write and tell you every day, the troubles that have come my
way |
|
You
always know just what to say dear Tom |
|
I
never had a friend like you, to tell my woes and worries to |
|
You
really are a dream come true dear Tom |
|
|
Dear
Tom I'm going mad and my brother he suspects me |
|
he
says I'm looking pale and out of sorts |
|
Dear
Tom my invisible stranger did I attack Hermione Granger? |
|
Now
they're talking about closing down Hogwarts |
|
|
I
write and tell you every day, the troubles that have come my
way |
|
You
always know just what to say dear Tom |
|
I
never had a friend like you, to tell my woes and worries to |
|
You
really are a dream come true dear Tom |
